Happiness Running
Date: Started - August 2002; Finished - Friday July 6, 2007
Summary:
|
Tagline: Because happiness is just one step away. My first novel. Taking on the challenge was daunting at times, but finishing produced a feeling that can only be understood by those that have set goals in life and accomplished them. This was on my list and now that I got through it I'm ready to do it all over again. The story is about Sal and Julie. After a note is written you'll see where their lives take them. |
Nina
Date: Saturday July 29, 2006
Summary:
Part 2 of exercise series. I am nuts about this story. Personally, I think it came out well and is on my list of favorites. I'd say I like it so much because it feels like I didn't even write it. The story practically put itself together and took on a life of its own. Also, the sentiment is so sweet and innocent. This is along the lines of "Little Boy," but isn't exactly the same. In this story we find, Nina, a young girl and her mother. The two of them are just adorable in my mind. I hope you'll read it and agree.
Castles
Date: Tuesday January 2, 2007
Summary:
Well the title probably doesn't fit the content, but I never said I was much good at naming stories. You'll find that's true with most of my writings to date. This one differs however in that the story seems to have been better received by those that read it. I think that's just a testament to what time and practice do.
Raining in Paradise
Date: Tuesday June 17, 2008
Summary:
I'm not really sure what to say about this one right now. There wasn't any extraordinary idea bursting out waiting to be told. I didn't feel this was the best or worst thing I ever wrote. I didn't even go in knowing how I wanted it to end. But things happened and I think it is worthwhile in the entertainment department.
Raining in Paradise - Kara's Perspective
Date: Sunday June 22, 2008
Summary:
This is a spin on the original "Raining in Paradise" story, which you might want to read first. But it doesn't really matter. Basically they are the same story. The reason there are two of them is because each one comes from the other character. It was an exercise for myself. I found it interesting though to try and take the same thing and show how it was different. The same events in life take place, but not everyone interprets them the same way.
Johnny Part 1
Date: Monday July 31, 2006
Summary:
This is the third of the five stories in the exercise series.
Johnny Part 2
Date: Monday July 31, 2006
Summary:
Minutes after posting a comment was made crying out for me to finish this. As I was warmed up from the first half I continued on with the flow and as naturally as it could be this is what I left off with.
Beginnings
Date: Sunday July 23, 2000
Summary:
This is the first story I wrote. I remember I had just gotten a computer before the end of my senior year in high school. It was of course to be used for college work. Since I wasn't in college yet I took to exploring the Internet quite a bit. After coming home from a party for some reason I was sitting there in front of the computer. I was bored and wanted something to do, so I began writing. As you'll see it's not my finest work, but the time and place I was in will always be special to me. And bottom line I still think it's entertaining.
Clark
Date: Wednesday August 29, 2001
Summary:
Another early story. This one was actually written for an advanced english course I took in college. I don't remember what the exercise was for, but either way this is what came out. We had groups of three and the two girls in my group seemed to enjoy it, as well as the teacher. I don't think we received grades, it was just a pass or fail depending on if you did the assignment or not. Aside from the check, I recall that there was only one note at the end encouraging me to possibly go a bit further with the story.
Cracker Jack
Date: Tuesday September 16, 2003
Summary:
This was a quick writing I did while I was on a break in between classes. There's not much, just a simple curiosity of what might happen had I been a working man riding the train into the city on any normal work day.
Don
Date: Sunday March 3, 2002
Summary:
An overweight businessman named Don. Being bored I pondered in my room what someone else might do while they were bored and possibly away from home. This isn't in any way one of my favorites, but it definitely shows that I was trying to work on my writing and ability to pick a situation, describe it, and see where it went from there.
Dragged Down
Date: Thursday July 27, 2006
Summary:
The first in a series of five. A group of friends online set out to do a collective writing exercise. There were a number of key words to start off or to include as part of the story.
First Love
Date: Sunday August 17, 2003
Summary:
This is like a memory in which a fondness comes from thinking about the first time. In this case it happens to be that of a first love.
Julie
Date: Friday May 27, 2005
Summary:
This tidbit can actually be found in my novel "Happiness Running." At the time I wasn't sure if I would use it or not so I posted this to see what kind of reactions I received. Sadly, my readership has been very low so I didn't get any feedback. I liked it enough that I thought it deserved to be kept and used.
Light Festival
Date: Sunday August 06, 2006
Summary:
Part 5 of the exercise series.
Little Boy
Date: Sunday July 27, 2003
Summary:
A simple story that appeals to me as a reminder that no matter what the circumstances are the best can be made of any situation if you're up to it. On a rainy day we find what a small boy might do.
Princess
Date: Tuesday July 8, 2003
Summary:
As of now, I would say this story could possibly be a turning point in my writing. I was writing more and I felt my stories were becoming better. I happened to write this one night as a bedtime story for a girl I knew. She was a bit younger than me, lived by my grandmother down the street, and I happened to meet her online. I thought it was sweet. I'm not so sure she felt the same. It's likely because she was tired and didn't want to be reading. Had circumstances been different, such as being closer to her age I would have loved to been her friend. I would have gladly snuck out on some school night, knock on her window, and held her in my arms while reading her to sleep. But that's not how it goes so all that's left is this story.
Rain When I Die
Date: Friday May 14, 2004
Summary:
This story came from a rainy day at work. I had been out running around and when I got back and parked I sat in the car waiting for the rain to let up. The character and I are much the same.
Spooky 1
Date: before Sunday August 31, 2003
Summary:
Originally titled "His Wallet." This story is dedicated to my grandfather.
Spooky 2
Date: before Sunday August 31, 2003
Summary:
Second Part.
Squirrels
Date: Sunday July 13, 2003
Summary:
I wrote this out in my car while trying to get away from the party I was attending for my best friends sisters informal wedding reception. We were up in Michigan at his sisters house and no one was up yet. So I snuck outside before anyone could find me. And as I was sitting there the most incredible thing I had ever seen happened. Just like the story begins, this piece of tree comes tumbling down, and with it a squirrel. I wasn't sure if the thing could still be alive or not. Cats can fall from amazing heights and by twisting their spine can land on their feet. Are squirrels capable of doing the same thing? Then as I'm trying to figure out what to do I see the thing run off. Absolutely fantastic!
Tables
Date: Thursday August 28, 2003
Summary:
Inspired by the painting/photograph "Cafe Tables" by Carlos Spaventa. Yet another story written while on break at school. In one of the lounge areas I was sitting and staring at this painting. All of the sudden I got lost in it and wanted to write a story about how it made me feel looking at it. I wanted to try to describe it. Still at the time of experimenting with my written voice I may not have done the painting justice, but I tried.
Trials and Tribulations 1
Date: June 2002
Summary:
A first person narrative about this boys first date.
Trials and Tribulations 2
Date:
Summary:
Continuing along.
Trials and Tribulations 3
Date:
Summary:
Continuing along.
Trials and Tribulations 5
Date:
Summary:
Continuing along. And yes, it is supposed to be #5. I had intended on writing a fourth that sequentially fit in between 3 and 5. Not because of the numbers, but because of the story. However, I couldn't get it to come out the way I wanted and so it was left out. I think I still have an outline describing what I wanted to write, but think I'll leave it as is for the time being.
